The Penn Fierce Spinning reels are made with a full metal body and side plate to keep precise gear alignment under heavy loads also, including stainless steel ball bearings and machine-cut alloy main gear. The Penn Fierce Rod is made from a graphite composite blank and aluminum oxide guides.

The drag on the reel is smooth and durable. This is the best casting distance from a factory rod/reel combo that I have seen, very smooth and goes a country mile. The rod has great sensitivity and great flexibility. The inserts in the guides can chip if you drop/throw your rod down a lot on rocks or concrete surfaces. I have caught over three dozen redfish in the 20" to 30" range and more than 4 dozen speckled trout in the 18" to 24" with this combo with 20 lb Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid. I have used spoons (1/4 oz - 3/4 oz), hard plastic lures (1/4 oz- 7/8 oz), soft plastic worms, gulp shrimp and mullet with 1/2 oz jigheads, gotcha plugs (1/2 oz - 1 oz) and all work excellent with this setup. For the money this is the best all around combo I have found for inshore saltwater fishing. For anyone vaguely familiar with Amazon and their return policy, he's basically admitting that he couldn't bust his way out of a wet paper sack, intellectually. He's probably an Occutard. This rod and reel is the teet. I can cast bait a country mile. It's operation is super smooth to me. I love it. I know that someone who owns a $400 rig could probably find nits to pick, but for me--someone who fishes once or twice a month--it is a great reel/rod combo for $80. I bought two of them and will get a couple more in the future. 1 of 16 people found the following review helpful  not what i expected, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Penn Fierce Spinning Combo FRC4000 Reel with FRC817S70 Rod (Sports) ok seriously.... amazon! every time i order from amazon i have trouble. then ship to the wrong address or they cant ship to this address... really? and now. that i had goten my hopes up for this penn reel and rod combo i purchased for $65. well when i got it, it came in broken. the rod was snapped in half. it was so much trouble to figure things out for returning it. i even read a review for a similar item sold by amazon and saw that they had a similar problem too. i should of known and listen to those folks. seriously amazon? i rather stick with eBay. all my years there i have had no problems. |
