Offering true saltwater protection, this Zebco combo pairs a saltwater-grade 808 spincast reel with a 7-foot, two-piece rod, giving you the tools you need to hit the open water with confidence. The 808 spincast reel offers such features as a smooth ball-bearing drive, a 2.58:1 gear ratio, and 150 yards of pre-spooled 20-pound test line. The rod, meanwhile, offers medium-heavy action, making it strong enough to land larger fish.

About Zebco
Watchmaker, barber, and inventor R.D. Hull founded Zebco in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1949, in conjunction with the Zero Hour Bomb Company. The latter company, which manufactured electric time bombs designed to fracture oil wells, was looking to expand beyond its initial product and its expiring patent. Zebco's maiden reel was called the Standard, and was soon to be joined by the Model 22 in 1953. The Model 11 and Model 33 followed, helping popularize the notion of landing larger fish with lighter tackle. Dozens of products and patents later, Zebco still pays tribute to the legacy of R.D. Always liked closed face spinning reels & this is the perfect rig for me. I fish for speckled trout, redfish, mackeral, bonnethead shark & sheepshead. Drag works well wether using lures or bait. Perfeck for my kind of fishing.

I've had Ugly Stiks and Shakespeare reels for salt water for many years and thought I'd try some freshwater trout fishing. I needed something small and inexpensive and this combo fit the bill. Sure the reel has only one bearing but it's still smooth and should last quite a few years when properly maintained. The action on the Ugly Stik is light, the construction is solid and the two pieces fit snugly together. The reel is solid, cranks smoothly and the bail returns acceptably. I prefer the rear drag adjustment and this one seems to work very well. The black color on both the rod and reel are good for stealth in clear streams (no shiny parts) and looks good too. It casts smoothly and hits the mark every time (mainly because I'm just that good). Can you buy something much better? Sure. In my research I can across an ultralight reel that cost $1300. I say buy this Shakespeare Combo and then take the $1260 and go on a nice vacation to the mountains. I'll pass this rig on to my son and... Read more

At least I got another Ugly Stick. Otherwise, the reel is smaller than I expected. It's another simple pole for the kids. Don't buy this is your serious about fishing.

Oh . . . and the first one I received from Amazon was missing the top half of the pole. I let Amazon know about it and I received a replacement the next day. Mistakes happen and I'm glad Amazon is so quick to fix them.

Good value in a compact rod with accompanying reel. The reel is a bit cheesy, but is more than adequate for my kids, and the Ugly stick rod has nice action. Perfect for hiking & fishing for lake trout, it breaks down into a light compact package.

This product is as advertised. Easy to use, easy to carry in your car. We used the two rods and reels for surf fishing and fishing off
open boat in bay for week's vacation. My wife and I only saltwater fish once a year, the two inexpensive rods and reels were perfect for us.
I recommend cleaning with fresh water and using reel oil if storing for future use. If you normally salt water fish you might want to purchase
better quality/ more expensive equipment.

Bought one at my local tackle shop. Used it for cat fishing. Loved it so much, I bought four more. I have other 808 combos as well that I bought later on. I love all the 808's I have and are my first pick for all my fishing trips. Casts well.
